TZS 240: 2013 Road vehicles — Positioning and routing of engine exhaust pipes — General requirements

Engine exhaust pipes are used in automobiles in order to convey and release to the atmosphere the exhaust gases produced by the engine in such a manner that no discomfort, nuisance or health hazard either to the persons travelling in the vehicle or to the other users of the road arise.

The routing of the exhaust pipes in a vehicle, from the engine to the final exists or tail pipe is left to the vehicle manufacturer who bases it on his own design and space considerations. At the same time, however, it is obligatory on his part to observe and to adhere to certain rules which are concerned with the prevention of accidents, fire and health hazards on public roads.
