The rationale of the measure

This specification covers requirements for the general design, construction, performance, marking, and labelling,
and testing of safety helmets for use by motor cyclists on the roads.

Description of the measure

6. Marking and labelling
6.1. Marking on helmets
6.1.1 The helmet shall be legibly and indelibly marked with the following information in a position where the marking is protected from obliteration:
(a) The manufacturer's name or trade mark or trade name;
(b) the batch identification;
(e) the date of manufacture.
6.1.2 The helmet shall be marked with the following information:
(a) The size or range of sizes;
(b) the mass of the helmet.
6.2 Label supplied with helmet: Every helmet shall have: a label , in both official languages, the information given in (a) – (d) and, when relevant, (e) below:
(a) For adequate protection the helmet must fit closely.
(b) The chin strap must be fastened correctly and under tension at all times. A chin cup must not be fitted to the chin strap.
(c) The helmet is made to absorb some of the energy of a blow by partial destruction of its component parts and, even though damage may not be readily apparent, any helmet subjected to a severe impact should be replaced.
(d) To maintain the full efficiency of the helmet there must be no alteration to the structure of the helmet or its component parts.
(e) The helmet should not be painted, and solvents must not be used to clean it.
