- 6.3.1 Preparation
When packed with shells, any growth on the external surfaces of the shells and meats shall be removed. Byssus shall be removed. In the case of abalone cleaning of the flesh shall include removal of the mouth and guts. The adhering mucous and epithelium between fringes and foot shall be brushed off. Abalone may be treated with preparations of salt and lime solutions to remove mucous. No bleaching agents shall be used. - Reference of the measure
