The rationale of the measure

These regulations shall apply to all canned fruits which are sold or manufactured for sale in Zimbabwe.

Description of the measure

5.(2) Cans required, in terms of subsection (3), to be lacquered inside shall be so lacquered with suitable lacquer.
(3) Cans shall be lacquered inside if the food product is capable of reacting with the can in the absence of a protective lacquer.
((4) All containers shall be hermetically sealed or, as may be appropriate, firmly and accurately closed.
(5) All containers shall be so filled as to allow for proper processing and, in any case, fruits, together with any liquid medium shall occupy not less than 90% of the total of the container.
(6) No more liquid than is necessary for processing shall be added to canned fruits.

Description

Canned fruits ie the product prepared from clean, sound fruits or a mixture of such fruits of proper ripeness, with or, without the addition of sugar, salt, vinegar and other ingredients, other than food additives, with such quantities of potable water as may be necessary, and packed in hermetically sealed or firmly and accurately closed containers and heat-processed to ensure preservation.
