The rationale of the measure
a) Protect public health
b) Protect the domestic and export animal markets, animal products and others who may be affected directly or indirectly by animal diseases
c) Act as a framework to carry out epidemiological surveillance, eradication and control of major diseases which can impact the economy and public health
d) Form the basis for compensation for losses caused by animal disease
e) Form the basis for compliance with the animal welfare conditions

Description of the measure
Article 25: If, on arrival of a vehicle at an entry point, there is one or more animals suspected of being infected with any of the diseases described in the O.I.E Disease List, the Veterinary Authority can prevent their entry into or apply one of the following measures at the expense of the owner:
a) Sanitary sacrifice, with sterilization or destruction of the meat in appropriate facility with no right for compensation
b) Quarantine of animals in the entry point surroundings areas'
c) Discharge and destruction of bedding, feed and all potentially contaminated material
d) Cleansing and disinfection of the vehicle, equipment and materials used during the transportation
Article 27: Quarantine is mandatory for all animals imported, in places and manner established by the Veterinary Authority
