The rationale of the measure
These regulations shall apply only to meat and preparations of meat which are sold or intended for sale in Zimbabwe.

Description of the measure
Manufactured meat products—
(a) may contain spices and flavouring, with or without milk, eggs, agar-agar, gelatine and wholesome farinaceous or other vegetable substances, and may contain added phosphates not exceeding 0,5%, added ascorbic acid, permitted preservatives and colouring matter, saltpetre and potassium or sodium nitrite;
(b) may contain not more than 25% of edible offal;
(c) shall have a protein nitrogen content derived from meat of not less than 1,75%, and the amount of nitrite shall not exceed 200 mgs per kg, calculated as sodium nitrite, and the amount of nitrate shall not exceed 500 mgs per kg, calculated as sodium nitrate.

Description
Manufactured meat products-
(a) cooked products of meat which have been subjected to curing, drying or smoking, or any combination of such processes, in addition to mincing, dicing or grinding; and
(b) include vienna sausages, frankfurters, polonies, saveloys, meat pastes, brawn, meat loaves or rolls and similar products containing meat; but
(c) exclude sausage rolls, meat pies, black pudding, haggis and other similar products, which may be approved by the Secretary;
