- Article 42 (Identification and labeling)
1. Any operator intending to carry out any activity with GMOs and their products shall submit the accompanying documentation to the National Biosafety Authority for easy identification and recognition and shall include the following:
(A) a declaration that the good contains GMOs in cases where the identity of the GMO is known through identity preservation systems;
(B) common and scientific names and, where they exist, the trade names of the GMOs;
C) Code of the transformation event and / or, where there is and as a key to access the Information Exchange Mechanism, its unique identifier code registered with it, together with the electronic address;
D) Contact details, in particular of the exporter, importer or other authority, when indicated by the Government for the provision of additional information;
(E) the purposes for which the goods are intended.
2. All packaging and / or containers containing GMOs and their products must bear a label and package leaflet, in compliance with the current labeling rules, with the words "Containing Genetically Modified Organisms" clearly visible.
3. With the exception of GMOs and their products in transit through the national territory, destined for countries in the region, all others destined for human consumption, animal, processing, research or liberation, must present the information contained in the labels written in Portuguese and / Or English and easily readable.
4. Any change in the information on the label must be submitted in advance to the National Biosafety Authority for approval.
5. The labeling standards shall be defined by the GIIBS and submitted for approval by the National Biosafety Authority. - Reference of the measure
