The rationale of the measure
These regulations shall apply to soft drinks which is sold or manufactured for sale in Zimbabwe.

Description of the measure
5. Soft drinks, when in ready-to-drink form—
(a) shall have a hydrogen-ion concentration (pH) value of not less than 2,5;
(b) may, in the case of cola beverages, contain caffeine up to a maximum concentration of 150 mgs per litre;
(c) may contain, if quinine has been added, not less than 50 and not more than 100 mgs per litre (both expressed as quinine sulphate);
(d) shall not contain any mineral acid other than orthophosphoric acid, which may be present in an amount not exceeding 600 mgs per litre;
(e) may contain, unless otherwise specified in these regulations, permitted preservatives, permitted colouring ingredients and harmless flavouring substances;
(f) may contain harmless edible brominated or sulphonated oils:
Provided that brominated oils shall contain not more than 33% of bromine, and the acidity of the oil expressed as hydrobromic acid shall not exceed 1,000 mgs per litre.
