Import restrictions on sugar  

Status note

At the last NTB meeting in March 2011, Mauritius informed the meeting that import restrictions on sugar in Mauritius have been lifted  

Progress update note

1. Malawi reported that importation of sugar is subject to licensing but importation is not banned . 2. Mauritius also reported that the exportation and importation of sugar in Mauritius is done through the Mauritius Sugar Syndicate (MSS). The MSS is the only importer and supplier of sugar for domestic consumption. This is due to strategic reasons for safety and security of supply and also to honor contractual obligations to the EU.
