This complaint is registered by FESARTA.
The Director, Department of Immigration and Citizenship, South Africa, has instructed that, due to the outbreak of the ebola virus in DRC, no DRC citizens may enter South Africa until further notice.
See the attached notice.
Whilst it is accepted that the outbreak of the ebola virus is a serious issue, the transport industry recommends that other preventative measures be taken at the borders, rather than stop DRC citizens from entering the country? - Status note
- On 13th September 2016, FESARTA advised that the transporters were no longer facing this barrier so the NTB is resolved.
- Progress update note
- On 18th November 2014, South Africa Focal Point reported that the Focal Points had not received any official communication from South Africa Department of Home Affairs (DHA),regarding South Africa imposing restriction to its borders for DRC citizens to enter South Africa. The Focal Point would check the authenticity of the notice document provided by FESARTA to ascertain if it was an official instruction from DHA, as it does not hold any official logo and contact details. Focal Point would therefore forward the referred document to the DHA to request them to look into it.
