The rationale of the measure

This specification covers two-pole appliance couplers for a.c. only, with or without earthing contact,
with rated voltage in the range 50 V to 250 V and a rated current not exceeding 16A, for household and
similar general purposes and intended for the connection of a supply cord to electrical appliances or other
electrical equipment. 

Description of the measure

3. Requirements
An appliance coupler shall comply with the relevant of the following clauses of SABS IEC 320-1, Appliance couplers for household and similar general purposes- Part 1: General requirements , as published by Government Notice 1084 (Government Gazette No. 17287) of 5 July 1996.
