X: For purposes n.e.s.
Description of the measure
8 Headforms
8.1 General: Only that part of a headform above the basic plane is designed to represent the human head.
The variation of human head shapes is such that an artificial headform may not necessarily conform exactly to the shape of any random sample human head; the six headforms described are considered suitable to provide accurately fitting protective helmets for approximately 95 % of the population of all races.
8.2 Construction
The headforms are made from a hardwood that has a density in the range of 640 -720 kg/m 3 at a moisture content of 12% . Above the reference plane , the layers are planed to thickness to match the datum levels, the grain being displaced by 90° from layer to layer. After final shaping, the headforms are marked with the appropriate lines (see 8.3) and sealed with several coats of varnish.
