The rationale of the measure
These regulations shall apply to all canned vegetables which are sold or manufactured for sale in Zimbabwe.

Description of the measure
9 (1).No product shall be described as tomato puree unless it is prepared by concentrating tomato juice or from the liquid obtained from the residue of tomatoes after the partial extraction of juices.
(2) Tomato puree shall—
(a) not contain stems, skins, seeds or other coarse or hard portions or tomatoes;
(b) be strained or passed through a sieve of aperture size not greater than 850 micro-mtrs;
(c) not contain a soluble tomato solid content, exclusive of added salt, of not less than 12% when determined by a refractometer at 20° C uncorrected for acidity and read as degrees Brix on the international sucrose scale.
(2) Tomato puree may contain salt, sodium bicarbonate and, subject to the Food and Food Standards (Food Additives and Prohibited Substances) Regulations, 2001, any other ingredients.
