(4) (a) Endives shall be packed and sorted according to mass of individual units.
(b) In the case of Class 1 endives -
(i) grown under protection -
(aa) the minimum mass per endive shall be 150 g; and
(bb) the difference in mass between the lightest and heaviest endive in the same packing shall not exceed 100 g; or
(ii) grown in open-air-
(aa) the minimum mass per endive shall be 200 g; and
(bb) the difference in mass between the lightest and heaviest endive in the same packing shall not exceed 150 g.
(c) In the case of Class 2 and Class 3 endives ;
(i) grown under protection ;
(aa) the minimum mass per endive shall be 100 g; and
(bb) the difference in mass between the lightest and heaviest endives in the same packing shall not exceed 100 g; or
(ii) grown in open air ;
(aa) the minimum mass per endives shall-be 100 g; and
(bb) the difference in mass between the lightest and heaviest endives in the same packing shall not exceed 100 g.

(5) A container of Class 1 endives shall not contain more than three layers of endives.
Permissible deviations with regard to packing and sorting requirements
(7) Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 endives may deviate from the packing and sorting requirements by 10%, 15% and 25% respectively by number as set out in subregulation 4: Provided that the mass does not deviate by more than 10% from the applicable size groups.

- 2. (1) No persons shall sell table grapes in the Republic of South Africa other than imported table
grapes referred to in subregulation (3) –
(c) unless such table grapes are packed in accordance with the packing requirements as set out in regulations 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9;
PACKING REQUIREMENTS FOR TABLE GRAPES
Requirements for table grapes containers
5. Containers in which table grapes are packed shall:
(a) be clean, dry, undamaged and suitable;
(b) not impart a foreign taste or odour or any substance which may be injurious to the table grapes;
(c) be free from any visible sign of fungus growth;
(d) be free from Arthropoda infestation; and
(e) be strong and rigid enough to ensure that the original shape be retained and not bulge out, dent in, break or tear, to the extent that table grapes are damaged or are at risk of being damaged, during normal storage, handling or transport.
Packing requirements
6. (1) Only table grapes of the same quality, cultivar and ripeness shall be packed together in the same container. In case of mixed cultivars packed in the same container, grapes shall be of the same quality and shall comply with their individual ripeness standards”.
(2) Class 1 table grapes in the same container must be uniform in colour.
(3) Each container shall be packed firmly and to capacity.
(4) If table grapes are packed in prepacked units, such units shall be packed in a suitable manner in an outer container: Provided that the prepacked units are clean, dry, undamaged and suitable.
Packing material
7. If packing material is used inside the containers, such packing material shall be clean, dry, odourless, not transmit any harmful substance injurious to table grape.
Stacking of containers on pallets
8. If containers containing table grapes are palletised:
(a) the pallet shall be clean, undamaged and suitable;
(b) local pallets may have visible signs of fungus growth and Arthropoda infestation.
(c) the containers shall be stacked firmly and square with each other and the pallet;
(d) only containers of the same dimensions shall be stacked in the same layer on the pallet; and
(e) the containers shall not be stacked upside-down on the pallet
Strapping of pallet loads
9. (1) A pallet load of containers shall be strapped in a suitable manner.
(2) If containers without lids are being used, a suitable covering shall be placed on top of the pallet load of containers, before the pallet load is strapped - Reference of the measure

- This specification covers requirements for the handling, preparation, processing, packaging, freezing, storage and quality of frozen lobster tails, frozen whole lobster (cooked or raw) or any other frozen lobster product derived from lobsters of the families Palinuridae and Scyllaridae, and of the family Nephropidae (genera Homarus, Nephrops and Metanephrops, or any other species of lobster), intended for human consumption. It also covers requirements for factories and employees involved in the production.

- 4.3 Packing of lobsters and lobster tails
Only lobsters or lobster tails of the same species shall be packed together in any one container.
4.5.5 A lobster may be packed in an ice block, provided that it is completely covered with the ice. There shall be no cracks or other flaws in the ice.
4.7.6 Lobster tails in catering packs may be presented graded or ungraded for size, but this shall be declared on the main panel of the label. Provided that the flesh is firm and sound, some minor defects to the shell of such tails may be present. In every other respect, tails in catering packs shall comply with the quality, wrapping, packing and labelling requirements of this specification.
4.9 Overpacking of lobster tails, frozen whole raw lobster and frozen whole cooked lobster
Adequate provision for overpacking shall be made to compensate for loss of mass during frozen storage, transportation and distribution.
5.1.1 Packaging and wrapping materials
Subject to the relevant requirements of the Regulations promulgated under the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, 1972 (Act 54 of 1972),packaging and wrapping materials for the unprotected product shall be unused (new), clean, non-toxic, inert and of low moisture-vapour permeability, and shall not contain substances deleterious to the product or harmful to health. Wrappers for tails shall bear a true description of the product. Any description that appears on such a wrapper shall not conflict with the requirements of clause 6. Wrappers shall be of such size as to cover the tails adequately, thereby ensuring that, when frozen, the tails do not stick to one another and are protected from freezer burn. No packaging or wrapping material shall impart a flavour to, or in any way cause discoloration of, the product, or be itself discoloured by contact with the product. Packaging materials shall a) not be such as to impair the organoleptic characteristics of the product,
b) not be capable of transmitting substances injurious to the product or harmful to human health, and
c) be strong enough to protect the product adequately.
5.1.2 Outer containers
Only fibre board or other acceptable containers shall be used. The containers shall be unused (new), clean and intact, and shall be neatly and securely closed. Wooden outer containers shall not be made of green wood and shall not contain substances injurious to the product or harmful to health. Outer containers shall be so securely closed as to prevent contamination of the contents by dust or other foreign matter and shall be strong enough to protect the product adequately.
5.2 Glazing
The product may be glazed with chilled water or other acceptable glazing agent as a substitute for wrapping, provided that the glaze is maintained in an acceptable condition upto and including the final point of sale. When the product is glazed, the coating of ice shall cover the product completely to ensure that dehydration and oxidation are minimized. Water used for glazing shall comply with the requirements for potable water (see 3.4.1) or sea water (see 3.4.2), and its temperature shall be 5 ̊C or lower. - Reference of the measure

- 7.1.7 Canned hake, cod, kabeljou and similar types
7.1.7.1 Preparation and presentation
The product may be smoked and shall be prepared from fresh or frozen raw material from which the heads, viscera including the roe, tails, fins, loose scales, milt and blood shall be removed. All visible parasites and unsightly bruises and wounds shall be removed. The product shall consist of sections of whole fish that are cut transversely and in equal lengths and that are filled vertically into the can. Fillet or fillet portions may be packed. Any presentation that is adequately described on the label so as to avoid confusing or misleading the consumer may be permitted. The product shall be free from hard bones that may hurt the palate and that may be an indication of insufficient heat processing. Backbones present on cross cuts shall only be present as an integral part of the cut section of the fish and shall not appear separated from the muscular structure.
7.1.7.2 Drained mass
The drained mass, when determined in accordance with 11.5, shall be not less than 70 % of the d.n.m. in the case of transversely cut sections of the whole fish packed vertically; and 60 % of the d.n.m in the case of fillets and fillet portions packed in shallow flat cans. - Reference of the measure

- 7.1.8 Curried fish and pickled fish
7.1.8.1 Preparation and presentation
The product preparation and presentation shall be as discussed in 7.1.711. Fish portions may be dipped in flour, batter or other suitable coating and may be pre-cooked, pre-fried or pre-baked. The product is packed with curry sauce containing at least a mass fraction of 5 % onions in the case of pickled fish.
7.1.8.2 Drained mass
7.1.8.2.1 Curried fish
The washed mass of all solid components in curried fish product shall be not less than 50 % of the d.n.m. In case of a battered (or breaded) product, the fish and batter content shall be not less than 45 % of the d.n.m.
7.1.8.2.2 Pickled fish
The washed mass of all solid components shall be not less than 50 % of the d.n.m. and the mass of the fish core content shall be not less than 35 % of the d.n.m. on condition that at least 5 % of the d.n.m. consists of onions. A fish core content of 40 % is required where less than 5 % onions are used.
7.1.8.3 Absence of particular defects
Where fish units are covered in batter, the batter shall not separate excessively from fish units or crumble to form an excessive amount of sediment in the can. Where onions are present, they shall not be abnormally dark or discoloured. The surfaces of fish ends shall not be abnormally dark discoloured. There shall be no dark discoloured oil in the packing medium. - Reference of the measure

- 7.1.9 Canned salted or salt cured/dried anchovies or sardines
7.1.9.1 Preparation, preservation and presentation
The fish shall be salted or salt cured before canning. The product may be preserved by salt and chilled storage (below 5 "C) or by pasteurization or heat processing to render it shelf stable. When presented as fillets, the backbones shall be removed. The product may be presented as whole fish, headed and gutted fish, flat or rolled fillets or any presentation fitting the description on the label.
Garnish may be used and the product may be packed dry with salt, salted in own juices, in a salt pickle or in oil. Units in flat shallow containers shall be packed to avoid void spaces between units and units and the container.
7.1.9.2 Drained mass
When the drained mass is determined in accordance with 11.5, the fish and garnish content shall be at least 70 % of the d.n.m.
7.1.9.3 Absence of particular defects
Fillets shall not have dangerous protruding bones that can hurt the palate or throat. Fish units shall be firm and not mushy, slimy, mealy or disintegrating. There shall be no indication of mould or halophilic discolouration of units. Units shall be reasonably uniform in size unless described otherwise. - Reference of the measure

- 3. (1) No person shall, subject to the provisions of subregulation (2), sell fat spreads in the Republic of South Africa unless --
(b) the containers in which fat spreads are packed comply with the requirements for containers referred to in regulation 6.
Requirements for containers
6. (1) The container of a fat spread shall
(a) be made from a material that
(i) is suitable for this purpose;
(ii) will protect the contents thereof from contamination; and
(iii) will not impart any undesirable flavour to the contents thereof;
(b) be so strong that it will not tear or break during normal storage, handling and transport practices;
(c) be unbroken;
(d) in the case of a container that is re-used, be thoroughly cleaned and sterilized before the fat spread is packed therein; and
(e) be closed properly in a manner permitted by the nature thereof.
(2) No container shall contain more than one class of fat spread: Provided that outer containers (multi packs) with more than one class of fat spread packed therein, in separate containers or in small serving containers, are allowed - Reference of the measure

7.1.10.1 Preparation and presentation
Except for texture, uniformity of unit size, and the permissible presence of cross-filled units and turbidity in brine or in other packing medium, fish for bulk catering and re-manufacturing purposes shall comply with the requirements of this specification. Units may be packed with the tails intact; the heads and guts (viscera) however shall be removed. It may be a solid--pack or contain packing medium. It shall be labelled to disclose its true nature, with the name of the fish used being declared.
In the case of catering packs in a packing medium such as tomato, the packing medium shall be dispersed through the pack to cover almost all the fish units.
7.1.10.2 Drained mass
