- ZS 019 Ruminant Feeds - Specifications (First Revision)
This Zambian Standard prescribes specifications for the following ruminant feed categories:-
Milk Replacers / Sheep and Goat / Cattle / Dairy / Game
The specifications will in broad terms also be used as normative reference for the manufacture of feed and feeding of the Southern African herbivorous game species which are mostly ruminants (with the exception of zebra, elephant, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, bushpig and warthog which are not ruminants). Wild ruminant species in general will be fed similar to their domestic counter parts most similar in physiological stage and mature body weight. Where the wildlife ruminant feed, supplement or concentrate materially deviates from this standard sound scientific evidence of the contrary must be available at the point of manufacture.
This Standard for ruminant feed is designed to:
Ensure that ruminant livestock (Cattle, sheep and goat) and wildlife are fed rations which are appropriate for the life and production stage of the ruminants fed;
Help ensure the safety of food for human consumption through good manufacturing practices during procurement, handling, storage, processing and distribution of ruminant feed and feed ingredients. - Reference of the measure
