166. Microbiological standard for egg
An egg shall be suitable for human consumption when a sample of not less than 50 grams of the egg, upon being tested from suitable enrichment media, has been found to be free from salmonella organisms and complies with the microbiological standard for specified food as per Eighth Schedule.
167(2) No person shall use in the manufacture of food or sell any liquid egg unless it has been pasteurised by being retained at a temperature not lower than 64°C for at least 2.5 minutes and immediately cooled to a temperature not higher than 7° C.
168.(2) No person shall use in the manufacture of food or sell any liquid egg yolk unless it has been pasteurised by being retained at a temperature not lower than 60°C for 3.5 minutes and immediately cooled to a temperature not higher than 7°C.
169(2) No person shall use in the manufacture or sell any liquid egg white unless it has been pasteurised by being retained at a temperature not lower than 55°C for at least 9.5 minutes, and immediately cooled to a temperature not higher than 7°C.

(2) Potable water shall -
(a) be obtained from a source that is free from pollution;
(b) be free from faecal coliform, coliform organisms and pathogenic protozoa when judged by the result of a microbiological or biological examination as provided in the Eighth Schedule;
18(1) No fish or fish product shall be acceptable if they are known to contain parasites, undesirable micro-organisms, pesticides, veterinary drugs or toxic, decomposed or objectionable matter likely to be harmful to human health. Such products shall be disposed of in a proper manner.
62. Prohibition of importation and sale of food with excess contaminant
(1) No person shall import, manufacture, store, pack, sell or offer for sale any food intended for human consumption which has any excess contaminant, microorganism, toxin produced by microorganisms, antibiotic residue or pesticide residue that are contained in or present on any food as specified in paragraph (2) and (3).
(2) (a) Metal contaminants shall not be greater than the maximum permitted proportion specified in respect of that food in the Seventh Schedule.
(b) Bacteria shall not be in a greater number than the numbers specified in respect of that food as set out in the Eighth Schedule.
(c) The quantity of mycological contaminant shall not be greater than the maximum quantity specified in the Ninth Schedule.
d) Pesticide residue shall not be in excess of the limit specified in respect of that food as set out in the Tenth Schedule.
(3) (a) No food shall contain any antibiotic or its degradation products.
(b) Notwithstanding subparagraph (a) a person shall not commit an offence where the Government Analyst certifies that the antibiotic residue or its degradation product detected does not constitute a danger to the health of human beings.
This Law relates to the regulation and inspection of food and pharmaceutical products.

Description of the measure
Food products authorized for use shall conform to quality standards set by the national competent
organs. No food product shall be manufactured, sold, donated, imported, stored or exhibited unless it
conforms to the requirements provided under this Law. Each food product must:
1° not contain toxic substances;
2° be safe for human or animal consumption;
3° not be rotten, spoiled, expired or contaminated;
4° not contain additives that may cause a disease;
5° not be associated with effects on human health;
6° conform to quality standards or the provisions of food product regulations applicable in the country;
7° not be counterfeited ;
8° not be derived from diseased or infected animals;
9° be stored, manufactured or prepared in a place that meets hygiene standards.
An Order of the Minister shall set out instructions regulating food products and their composition.

“Pasteurization” or “pasteurized” means the heating of every particle of milk:
(i)to a temperature of 62°Celsius for 30 minutes and
then cooling to 10° Celsius or less, or
(ii) to a temperature of 71° Celsius for 15 seconds and then cooling it to 10° Celsius or less;

13. (1) Pasteurized milk must have a negative reaction to the phosphates test.
(2) Ice cream mix shall be pasteurized at a temperature of not less than 68 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes or for such other holding period as may be approved by the
Board.
