- Food products authorized for use shall conform to quality standards set by the national competent
organs. No food product shall be manufactured, sold, donated, imported, stored or exhibited unless it
conforms to the requirements provided under this Law. Each food product must:
1° not contain toxic substances;
2° be safe for human or animal consumption;
3° not be rotten, spoiled, expired or contaminated;
4° not contain additives that may cause a disease;
5° not be associated with effects on human health;
6° conform to quality standards or the provisions of food product regulations applicable in the country;
7° not be counterfeited ;
8° not be derived from diseased or infected animals;
9° be stored, manufactured or prepared in a place that meets hygiene standards.

- 4. No person shall sell food containing food additive unless that food additive is listed in the Schedule of these Regulations
5. Arequest that a food additive be added to or a change made in the Schedule of these Regulations shall be accompanies by a submission to the Commission and shall include-
(a)a description of the food additive including its chemical name and the name under which it is proposed to he sold. Method of its manufacture, chemical and physical properties. Composition and specification;
(b) a suggestion of the amount of the food additive proposed for use. and the purpose for which it is proposed. together with all directions, recommendations and suggestions for use;
(c) date establishing that the food additive shall have the intended physical or other technical effect;
(d) detailed reports of tests made to establish the safety of the food additive under the recommended conditions of use;
(e) data to indicate the residues that may remain in or upon the finished food when the food additive is used in accordance with good manufacturing practice:
(f) a proposed maximum limit for residues of the food additive in or upon the finished food;
g) specimens of the [abelling proposed for the food additive;and
(h) a sample of the food additive in the form in which it is proposed to be used in foods,a sample of 'the active ingredient and,on request, a sample of food conta1ning the food additive.
6.The Commission shall inform in writing the person filing the sub- mission of its Decision to approve or disapprove the request for the addition or change in the Schedule.
7. Any person who contravenes any of these Regulations or who fails to comply with Any notice or prohibition under –these Regulations is liable upon conviction to a fine not less than five hundred thousand shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceedingThree years or to both that fine and imprisonment - Reference of the measure

- 27.-(1) Plant protection substances and plant resistance improvers shall be used only in accordance with good professional practice.
(2)The Minister shall issue or cause to be issued a Code of Conduct for the proper use of plant protection substance, plant resistance improvers and equipment, which shall include, but not limited to, the following-
(a) measures to minimise or discourage the use of plant protection substances, plant resistance improvers and equipment, and other measures which do not attach priority to biological, biotechnological, plant breeding, cultivation and cropping measures,
(b) discouraging or prohibiting the use of plant protection substances, plant resistance improvers and equipment in cases where it is expected that their use will have harmful effects on health of man, animals, ground water or the natural environment;
(c) compulsory requirements to the users of plant protection substances, plant resistance improvers and equipment to observes directions for use;
(d) requirements to any person who applies plant protection substance, plant resistance improvers and equipment within the framework of this Act or instructs or supervises persons who apply the plant protection substances, plant resistance improver and equipment, to have necessary degree of reliability and possess necessary specialist knowledge and skills and to ensure that, the use of plant protection substances and equipment does not result in any avoidable harmful effects on the health of man, animals and the natural environment;
(e) requirements to a person using plant protection substance or plant resistance improvers to furnish proof that he possesses such specialist knowledge and skills for use of the plant protection substance as he is required;
(f) Prohibition. of the marketing of the plant protection substances or plant resistance improvers in retails trade by means of vending machines or other forms of self service;
(g) prohibition of retail selling of plant protection substances, plant resistance improvers and equipment, wholly or in part, if certain facts justify the assumption that the trader or person selling plant protection substances and equipment for him does not possess specialist knowledge necessary for properly informing the purchaser about the use of the plant protection substances, plant resistance improvers and equipment and the risk involved;
(h) requirements to traders or persons selling the plant protection substances, plant resistance improvers and equipment on their behalf to furnish proof that they possess the necessary specialist knowledge;
(i) prohibition of all kinds of handling of plant protection substances, plant resistance improver and equipment by minors, people of unsound mind and people in any other proven state or condition, who when handling plant protection substances, plant resistance improver and equipment, may be predisposed to harmful effects;

- 16 –(1) The composition of infact formula shall be in accordance with Tanzania standard 187 “ infant formula specification”
(2) Infant formula shall be in powder form prepared from dairy animals or other animals or other edible constituents of animals including fish or plants which are suitable for infant feeding and shall contain only oils of plant origin after satisfactory removal of fats of animal origin.
(3) Infant formula shall be free from lumps, coarse particles, dirt, extraneous matter and added clouring substances and shall be free from any material microorganisms in amounts which are hazardous to infants as set out in the first schedule to these regulations
(4) Infant formula shall be clean, safe, suitable for ingestion and nutritionally adequate to promote normal growth and developments of infants and shall contain nutrients in quality and composition as set out in the second, third and fourth schedule to these regulations.
(5)Infant formula shall be packed in air tight and temper proof containers approved by the commission and they shall safeguard the hygienic and nutritional qualities of the products.
(6) Subject to sub-regulations (5) of this regulation, nitrogen or a mixture of carbon dioxide and nitrogen may be used as packing media in the case of spray dried infant formula.
(7) The composition of supplementary foods shall be in accordance with Tanzania standard 180, “processed cereal based weaning food”
(8) supplementary food shall be clean, safe, suitable for ingestion and nutritionally adequate to promote normal growth and development of the young child and shall contain nutrients in quality and composition as set out in Tanzania standard 180. - Reference of the measure
