- 4.3.8 Soya and other proteinaceous materials from non-fish products
Subject to the requirements of the regulations under the said Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act and with the approval of the authority administering this specification, soya and other non-fish, proteinaceous materials may be used subject to the following:
a) Soya and any other non-fish proteinaceous materials shall not be used to replace the required fish, molluscs and crustacean content.
b) If required to do so by the authorities administering this specification, the manufacturer of the canned fish, canned molluscs or canned crustacean products shall disclose to the authority the composition of the non-fish proteinaceous preparation that has been used and the concentration at which it is present in the product.
c) Where soya andlor other non-fish proteinaceous material is present in products that contain the fish or molluscs or crustacean content called for by this specification, the presence of non-fish proteinaceous material shall be declared in the ingredients panel of the label. - 7.2.3 Sauce, gravy or broth
The sauce or gravy shall not contain more than 6 % by mass of starchy (farinaceous) material and it may be spiced.
Where the product is claimed to have been packed in exuded broth or in thick or rich sauce or gravy, the character of the packing medium shall, after equilibrium has been reached, be in accordance with the claim made.
A product packed in exuded or thin broth shall not be labelled as having been packed in gravy or sauce.
A product that claims to have been packed in tomato sauce, shall have a characteristic tomato colour and the sauce shall not be thin and watery.
The ingredients of the sauce, gravy or broth shall not tend to separate from one another when the product is turned out of the container.
The product shall not contain curing salts unless its product name indicates the presence of cured meat. - Reference of the measure

- 3. (1 ) No person shall sell potatoes in the RepUblic of South Africa -
(e) unless such potatoes are marked with the particulars and in the manner prescribed in regulation 8;
Marking requirements
8. (1) Containers containing potatoes shall be marked in clear and legible block letters of at least 5 mm in height with the following particulars:
(a) The name and address or trade mark of the producer, owner or packer;
(b) The class namely "Class 1", "Class 2", "Class 3" or "Lowest Class·, as the case may be;
(c) In the case of Class 1 and Class 2, the size group, namely "Large", "Medium", "Large-Medium" "Small" and "Baby", as the case may be: Provided that the expressions "L", "M" "LM" "S" and "B" potatoes respectively, as the case may be, may also be used;
(d) The net mass of the contents in letters of a size as prescribed by the Trade Metrology Act, 1973 (Act No. 77 of 1973);
(e) The word "Potatoes";
(f) The cultivar;
(g) Indication of date code: provided that if a packing date is expressed in a code, it shall be registered with the Executive Officer; and
(h) Country of origin: Provided that no abbreviations or the expression, the word "South Africa" on its own shall be used.
(2) The particulars referred to in subregulation (1) (e) and (f) may be omitted in the case of transparent containers.
(3) If containers containing potatoes are packed in a carrier container, each carrier container shall be marked with the particulars mentioned in subregulation (1), as well as with the number of containers it contains, on at least one end of every carrier container by means of stamping or stencilling or by pasting a printed label thereon.
(4) If at any stage the class designation or size designation is altered, labels, where applicable, shall be replaced or the new class designation or size designation shall be stamped across the old class designation or size designation on the label or the form in clear and legible block letters of at least 5 mm larger than the previous marks with a suitable stamp.
(5) The particulars shall be printed in at least English and any other language.
(6) No wording, illustration or other means of expression which constitutes a misrepresentation or which directly or by implication, may create a misleading impression of the contents, or of the quality or the class thereof, shall appear on a container containing potatoes
(7) Whenever potatoes are displayed for sale in loose quantities -
(a) Any quantity of a particular class, a size group or a cultivar shall not be displayed mixed with potatoes of any other class, size group or cultivar; and
(b) The classes, and in the case of Class 1 and Class 2 and also the size group of such quantity of potatoes, shall be indicated in clear and legible block letters of at least 10 mm in height on a notice board prominently placed at such a quantity of potatoes. - Reference of the measure

7.7.10.1 Where meat other than beef, pork, mutton or goats' meat is used, the kinds of meat present shall be disclosed in the product name, and, in all cases, the kinds of meat used shall be declared in the ingredients panel of the label if they do not appear in the title. Where fat of other origin than the kind(s) of animal(s) declared on the label is used, the kind(s) of fat origin shall also be declared.
7.7.10.2 Subject to 7.7.10.1 above, corned meat shall be labelled as "corned meat" without further qualification. - Reference of the measure

- 2. (1) No person shall sell a consignment of rice in the Republic of South Africa --
(d) unless the rice concerned is marked with the particulars and in the manner prescribed in regulations 8, 9, and 10;
Marking requirements
8(1) Each container in which rice is packed shall be marked in clearly legible letters with-
(a) the name of the product: Provided that the product name shall be in accordance with the definitions in Regulation 1. The alternative name given in parenthesis may be used.
(b) the class of rice.
(c) degree of milling (optional).
(d) the expression "Product of followed by the name of the country of origin thereof or the country of origin declared as required by regulations published in terms of the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, 1972 (Act 54 of 1972).
(e) Registered Trade Mark where applicable/ Product Brand of the Product.
(2) Each container in which rice in retail quantities are sold, shall, either on the main panel or in another conspicuous place thereon, be marked with-

(a) the name and address of the packer of the rice as required by regulation 10; and (b) the net weight as required in terms the Trade Metrology Act, 1973 (Act No. 77 of 1973).
The particulars referred to in sub regulation (1) and (2) shall be indicated in clearly legible letters and figures-
(a) that are in each separate case of the same colour, type and size;
(b) that appear on a uniform and contrasting background; and
(c) of which the vertical height is at least 5,0mm for pack sizes equal to or larger than 5kg in weight and 2mm for pack sizes less than 5kg in weight: Provided that the indication of the name and address of the packer may be of a vertical height of at least 2mm.
Marking of containers in which Rice is packed in bulk quantities
9. (1) Subject to the provisions of subregulation (2), each container containing Rice in bulk, shall be marked clearly and legibly with block letters on the container itself, or on a label affixed to the container, with the following particulars:
(a) the name of the product shown at least as Rice;
(b) the class of the Rice: Provided that the class may be omitted if the Rice have not been classified yet, or in the case of imported Rice destined for a purpose other than sale;
(c) a lot identification;
(d) the country of origin; and
(e) the name and address of the packer of the rice as required by regulation 10:
Provided that the lot identification and the name and address of the packer may be replaced by an identification mark, if such identification mark is clearly identifiable with the accompanying sales documents.
(2) The country of origin may in the case of rice destined for further processing or packing be omitted, if the country of origin is indicated on the accompanying sales documents.

10. (1) The name of the packer of rice that is marked on the container shall -
(a) consist of the initials and surname or trade name of the packer or, in the case of imported rice in retail quantities, the importer concerned; and
(b) be preceded by the expression "Packed by" or, in the case of Rice imported into the Republic in the containers in which they are to be sold in the retail trade, be preceded by the expression "Imported by".
(2) The address as contemplated in sub-regulation 1 of the packer of Rice and be marked on such container immediately after the particulars referred to in sub-regulation (1).
(3) If rice is packed on behalf of a person -
General
(a) the particulars referred to in subregulation (1) (a) shall be replaced by the initials and surname or trade name of the person on whose behalf the Rice have been packed;
(b) such initials and surname or trade name shall be preceded by the expression "packed for";
(c) the address of such person shall be indicated in the place of the address referred to in sub regulation (2);
(d) such address shall be marked on a container immediately after the particulars referred to in paragraph (a); and
(e) the particulars referred to in sub-regulations (1) and (2) may in addition thereto be marked on a container. - Reference of the measure
