  Description of the measure

  9. The containers in which dry beans are packed shall-
  (a) be manufactured from a material that –
  (i) will protect the contents thereof against contamination; and
  (ii) Will not impart any undesirable flavor or odour to the contents thereof;
  (b) Be so strong that they will not tear or break during normal storage, handling and transport practices;
  c) be whole , with the exception of grain probe marks: Provided that grain probe marks will not be permissible n the case of dry beans in retail quantities;
  (d) be clean;
  (e) be closed properly in a manner permitted by the nature thereof; and
  (f) in the case of dry beans in retail quantities , be previously unused for any purpose.
  10. (1) Dry beans of different grades , size, groups and type groups shall, except in the case of the type group known as Mixed dry beans, not be packed in the same container.
  (2) Undergrade dry beans shall be packed in containers each containing 5 kg of dry beans or more.

  C: Protection of life and health of plants 

  Description of the measure

  22.-(1) Every package of seed produced in Tanzania and classified with the name of one of the Tanzania seed class shall be fastened and tagged with an official tag authorized by the Chief Seed Certification Officer.
  (2) The domestic tag referred to under sub-regulation (1) shall contain the:
  (a)name of the plant species;
  (b)name of the variety;
  (c)seed class;
  (d)serial number of the label or tag;
  (e)seed certificate number; and
  (f)lot number.
  (3) The tags referred to under sub-regulation (1) shall be supplied only to seed dealers applying for these tags and furnishing an Inspector with-
  (a)a declaration of the grower declaring that the seed to which the tags are to be applied is derived from the crop in respect of which the final field inspection results specified in form SR VIII B set out in the Fifth Schedule to these Regulations; and
  (b)a declaration of the applicant, if the applicant is not the grower, declaring that the seed referred to in the grower’s declaration is the seed to which the labels are to be applied and that the seed has not been mixed or contaminated while in the possession of the applicant.
  (4) The tag for standard seed, shall contain the:
  (a)name of the seed;
  (b)name of the variety of the seed;
  (c)name of the class of the seed;
  (d)serial number of the tag; and
  (e)lot number
  23.–(1) Every package of seed of foreign origin classified with the name of the Tanzania seed class shall be fastened and tagged with an inter-agency ertification tag authorized by the Chief Seed Certification Officer;
  Provided that, for any package of seed which originates from an East African Community member country,
  grey colour shall be used.
  (2) The inter-agency certification tag referred under sub-regulation (1) shall contain the:
  (a)name of the plant specie;
  (b)name of the variety;
  (c)seed class;
  (d)name of the country of production;
  (e)serial number of the tag; and
  (f)lot number.
  (3) Inter-agency certification tags referred to under sub-regulation (1) shall be supplied only if the seed dealer applying for these tags furnishes an Inspector with-
  (a)seed inspection report from a certification agency recognized by the Tanzania Seed Certification Institute; and
  (b)particulars of the information on the tag of the foreign certification with respect to official and inter-agency labels
  24.-(1) An official tag or inter-agency certification tag shall only be applied to containers for which the tags were issued.
  (2) Except where the Chief Seed Certification Officer directs otherwise, an official or inter-agency certification tag shall not contain anything other than
  the information required by regulations 18 or 19.
  (3) An official tag or inter-agency certification label shall be affixed to a seed container by an Inspector Chief Seeds Certification Officer to authorize use of official or inter-agency certification tags
  25.-(1) The Chief Seed Certification Officer may, authorize any seed dealer to affix an official tag to seed of one of the Tanzania seed class, if that person:-
  (a)has seed processing equipment and facilities adequate for the proper processing of seed;
  (b)has adequate facilities to maintain the identity of different seed lots; and shall return to the Chief Seed Certification Officer on request by him any label supplied pursuant to regulations 18 or 19.
  (2) Where the Chief Seed Certification Officer is of the opinion that the seed dealer authorized to affix official labels pursuant to sub-regulation (1) is not complying with the provisions of regulations 18, 19 and 20 of these Regulations, the Chief Seed Certification Officer may withdraw the authority granted under sub-regulation (1)

  6. A person shall not pack, cause to be packed iodated salt for sale, distribution, display or delivery unless the package in which the iodated salt is packed bears within the principal display panel, the area of which shall not be less than forty percent of the total surface area of the package legible and unambiguous declaration in Swahili or English language as to:
  (a) The fact that the salt in the package is iodated
  (b)The complete name and address of :
  (i) manufacturer, if the manufacturer is also a packer; or
  (ii) Packer, if the packer is not the manufacturer.
  (c)The net weight of the iodated salt contained in the package, excluding the weight of the package
  (d) The month and year in which the iodated salt is manufactured, packed and expire
  (e) the Batch and lot number of the package; and
  (f) Store in a cool, clean and dry place

  7 (1) Any storage, display, sell or distribution of iodated salt. shall ensure that the package is in form which complies, in all aspects, the provisions of regulation 6

  16 –(1) The composition of infact formula shall be in accordance with Tanzania standard 187 “ infant formula specification”
  (2) Infant formula shall be in powder form prepared from dairy animals or other animals or other edible constituents of animals including fish or plants which are suitable for infant feeding and shall contain only oils of plant origin after satisfactory removal of fats of animal origin.
  (3) Infant formula shall be free from lumps, coarse particles, dirt, extraneous matter and added clouring substances and shall be free from any material microorganisms in amounts which are hazardous to infants as set out in the first schedule to these regulations
  (4) Infant formula shall be clean, safe, suitable for ingestion and nutritionally adequate to promote normal growth and developments of infants and shall contain nutrients in quality and composition as set out in the second, third and fourth schedule to these regulations.
  (5)Infant formula shall be packed in air tight and temper proof containers approved by the commission and they shall safeguard the hygienic and nutritional qualities of the products.
  (6) Subject to sub-regulations (5) of this regulation, nitrogen or a mixture of carbon dioxide and nitrogen may be used as packing media in the case of spray dried infant formula.
  (7) The composition of supplementary foods shall be in accordance with Tanzania standard 180, “processed cereal based weaning food”
  (8) supplementary food shall be clean, safe, suitable for ingestion and nutritionally adequate to promote normal growth and development of the young child and shall contain nutrients in quality and composition as set out in Tanzania standard 180.
