- Description of the measure
- 1. In these regulations the act means the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, No 54 of 1972, and any expression to which a meaning has been assigned in the Act shall bear such a meaning and, unless inconsistent with the context- Beverage means any powder or liquid intended for sale as a drink for human consumption, and shall include natural mineral water and bottled water.
2. For the purpose of section 2(1) (b) (i) of the act, in so far as it is applied to and is applicable to foodstuffs, the following foodstuffs are hereby deemed to be contaminated or impure:
(a)Any beverage containing more than 10 mg per kilogram or benzine in the ready to drink form.
(b)Any liquor product exceeding the specified maximum level of methanol as stipulated for different liquor products under the Liquor Products Act No 60 of 1989 - Reference of the measure

4(1) The following regulation is hereby substituted for regulation 14:
"14. I\Jo person shall sell for consumption fruit juice which -
a) gives a total viable colony count of more than 10 000 colony forming units per 1,0 ml of the product;
b) gives a coliform organism count of more than 100 colony forming units per 1,0 ml of the product;
c) gives a yeast and mould count of 1 000 colony forming units per 1,0 ml of the product;
d) contains any detectable levels of coli in 1,0 ml of the product; and
e) contains any detectable Salmonella spp. in 25 ml of the product".

(2) Imported plums and prunes shall be exempted from the provisions of subregulation (1 ),
provided that the plums and prunes --
(c) do not contain a substance prescribed as a substance which it may not contain according to Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act, 1947 (Act No. 36 of 1947);
4(4) No consignment of plums and prunes classified as "Class 1", "Class 2" or "Lowest Class" shall contain:

Working surfaces shall be kept free from insecticidal and rodenticidal residues. Insecticides, rodenticides and cleaning chemicals shall at no time come into contact with wrappers, containers, raw materials or the product.

5.4.1 General
Raw material used for canning shall be of a quality suitable for human consumption and shall be collected from clean waters not polluted by industrial or sewage discharges or other sources of pollution. Crustaceans shall not contain chemical, microbiological or biological contamination that may be hazardous to health. Transport of crustaceans to the factory shall be under conditions that will protect the product from the elements and from environmental contamination. - 3.6.1 2 The use of pesticides
Pesticides shall not be used in work areas while preparation, processing and packaging are in progress, and precautions shall be taken to ensure that equipment and work surfaces are kept free from pesticide residues. Pesticides and cleaning chemicals shall at no time be allowed to come into contact with wrapping material, containers,raw materials or the product.The room in which pesticides are stored shall be kept locked and the materials contained in it shall be handled only by employees trained in their use.
4.1.1 Condition of ingredients and the product
4.1.1.1 General
All ingredients used shall fall within the scope of, and shall comply with the requirements of, the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, 1972 (Act 54 of 1972), and its Regulations. All ingredients used in the preparation of the product shall be clean, sound, of good quality and in every way fit for human consumption. In addition, the product shall not contain any substance in amounts that might present a hazard to human health.
4.11 Microbiological requirements
When tested in accordance with the methods given in 10.6 to 10.14, the product shall comply with the requirements given in column 2 or column 3 of table 1, as relevant.
